Tartan For Model 'T' Ford
A Commemorative Souvenir
2008 is the year of the Model T Ford Centenary, commemorating 100 years of the first mass produced Model ‘T’ Ford. To celebrate this event the Model ‘T’ Register of Great Britain are holding a rally at Dryburgh (Scottish Borders), under the guidance of Mike Povey from Ancrum.
One of the highlights of the centenary event will be visiting Lochcarron of Scotland, which is the most famous of all the Scots Tartan producers. To help mark the occasion, Mike has been working in conjunction with Alistair Buchan, the owner of Lochcarron of Scotland, to produce a special Model ‘T’ tartan.
The colours for the Model ‘T’ Tartan were chosen as follows:
- Red - represents the first 800 Model T's ever made.
- Blue - as introduced a short time later.
- Black - to capture the quotation made by Henry Ford "any colour you want as long as it's Black"
- White - stands for the natural rubber tyres and floor mats as used in all Model T's up until 1919.
- Gold - represents the extensive use of brass on all Model T's up to and including 1916.
The Club plan to work with Lochcarron of Scotland, to produce a wide range of clothing and accessories in the very wearable and attractive tartan. Gray and Adams one of the events main sponsors, is providing Travel Rugs in the Model ‘T’ Tartan for each car which attends the Centenary 2008 event.
